THe TEam draft mission
What do you think of when you hear the word football? Maybe the words disorganized, violent, dangerous, and reckless come to mind - words that have long coincided with the game of football. Many are under the impression that football requires little intelligence from players, organizations, and fans. However, with the recent rise of analytics within the game of football, it is clear that the “reckless” nature of football is entirely misunderstood. Math and statistics have begun to drive both the game on the field and the decisions from the organization, explaining the seemingly “random” nature of football. In particular, there is no part of football more random than the NFL draft. With general managers and scouts still yet to find a perfect drafting solution, we beg the question: can numbers draft for us? With our project, we hope to uncover the numbers behind the game, and advance the modern revolution of statistics that power the game of football, giving light to the intellectual side of a sport that is commonly known to be chaotic. We believe that we can develop a model that can project the success of future NFL stars for NFL teams to make decisions. This type of thinking and application of statistics will prove to be revolutionary in the world of NFL scouting, and we hope to be at the forefront.
